Writer's Workshop for the Week of January 20th

Monday

Watch story about MLK, Jr and video by Kid President and What is your life's blueprint?

Write a poem or reflection in response to what you have learned today about MLK, Jr.
Also write a poem or reflection about what your life's blueprint is.

Tuesday

We will be starting on descriptive writing. Today we will be looking at some picture prompts and writing our responses.

Wednesday

Discuss the difference between telling and showing. Watch this video that is a great example of descriptive writing. Walk around the room and write three "telling sentences."  Example: My desk is messy.

Now change those to "showing sentences." Example

Thursday

Brainstorm for your descriptive essay.  Get a thesaurus out and write 4 strong nouns and 4 strong verbs for each of the 5 senses after choosing your topic.

Today the 6th-8th graders separated the DNA out of a strawberry. A neat science lab and another lesson about how amazing our Creator is!

5-8 Class Teaching Chapel

I loved how my class taught the younger students the story of Daniel in chapel this week.. They used water and food coloring to demonstrate how our choices affect every part of our lives - good or bad. Daniel was an excellent example of how good choices, with God's help, can lead to really good outcomes.
