Pueblo Rescue Mission

Today we took a field trip to the Pueblo Rescue Mission. They serve over 16,000 people a year.  They provide dinner, hot showers, a place to sleep and a light breakfast for about 70 people a day.  And most importantly they share the love of Jesus!  This is the only such place in Pueblo for single men or women.  What an incredible ministry.

The students of Daystar commented that they are even more energized about their project Healthy Helping Hands.  They truly want to make a difference for other people. It also made all of us very grateful for the blessings that we have.

John, a worker there, gave the children a short testimony. He told them he had spent 30 years in jail because he had made some very bad decisions. He has now given his life to Jesus and is trying to share Jesus in a very real way, every day.

"After John gave his testimony, it hit me that some people have really rough lives and that it makes me appreciate things more," said Bella, 4th grader.

"It makes me want to do something to help people," said Grant, 8th grader.

This makes me think of the Bible verse in Philippians 2:4, "And look out for one another's interests, not just for your own"

Project Rubric & Guidelines

The students were given a copy of the rubric, guidelines and peer review for their PBL. I am also putting a copy on the blog.  Parents please notice that most of this work will be completed in class.  They will probably need some supplies from home to complete this project and there might be some homework involved. Please stay involved and ask your child for daily updates.

As part of the project we will be visiting the Pueblo Rescue Mission next Thursday at 10:00 a.m.  I will send home a permission slip.

Please make sure you have May 22, from 12:30 to 4:30 on your calendar for the Healthy Helping Hands: Daystar Christian School Event to help the Pueblo Rescue Mission and to raise health awareness.

The students have been making phone calls to procure a venue, get donations, cooking demonstrations, volunteer cooks and health booths. They have also been working on getting a community connection and volunteer to help them with their own booth.

Thursday they will have Bible verse quizzes and on Sunday evening Reading Plus is due.

Our quote today is from John Bunyan, “You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.”

Warm and Windy

Today in our daily devotional we talked about being bold for God.  Young people's faith will be challenged in many ways. They discovered that the way to keep strong in their faith is to study God's word daily and to ask the Holy Spirit for guidance and wisdom.  "The righteous are bold as a lion." Proverbs 28:1

We continue to work diligently on our PBL.  The student's have been writing phone scripts and calling local businesses to partner with for the event. Today they even created a logo for the event.

This Saturday the students will have a part in the Easter program. Please make sure all students are at the Pueblo First SDA Church by 10:30 a.m. in church attire.

Our quote for today is from Acts 4:29, "Grant us, Your servants, the courageous confidence we need to go ahead and proclaim Your message."

Music Fest Fun!!!

A big thank you to Campion Academy for a wonderful 2016 Music Fest! Our 5-8th graders worked hard practicing for two days and then performed two times on Saturday. With over 300 students from three different states, the new friends and memories made will last a life time. They were also able to go to the recreation center in Loveland for basketball and swimming, and they had an art lesson by the Campion Academy art teacher Mr. Autrey.

Our quote for today is from Martin Luther, "Next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world."
