Happy Thanksgiving!!!

We had a great day! Praise God for Daystar Christian School, students, teachers, volunteers and all supporters. Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Making Food Baskets

After collecting non-perishable food items from the community and church, Daystar Christian School along with the Pueblo Pathfinder and Adventure Club made up eleven food baskets to donate to needy families.

After categorizing the food and dividing it into the baskets, the students were rewarded with some pizza and fellowship. Tomorrow they will drive out into the community and hand deliver the baskets. Each donation of food comes with a hand-made card by the students.

"Every merciful act to the needy, the suffering, is as though done to Jesus." ~Ellen G. White

Autobiographical Poems

The autobiographical poems are done and they are fantastic! It was neat to learn about each other and it gave the students a creative outlet to express themselves.

We have been diligently practicing for the school Christmas program. All students will need to be at the Pueblo First SDA Church on December 12th for the main service. Please put this date on your calendar.

Reading packets are due on Monday.

Our quote for today is from W.T. Purkiser, “Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our thanksgiving.”

Aquifers

Today in science we learned about groundwater, precipitation and aquifers. We did a hand's on example and watched some videos to explain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNWAerr_xEE and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SesRrocIFtc.

We have been diligently writing and working on an autobiographical poem and making it into a work of art. I am excited to see their finished products.

All weekly assignments and quizzes are due tomorrow. Please be aware that reading packets are due on Monday.

Our quote today is from Nelson Mandela, “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it."

Figurative Language Quiz Tomorrow

Tomorrow we will be having an open notebook quiz tomorrow on figurative language. To help the students have fun studying we played a review game. They can play it here for more review: https://www.superteachertools.us/jeopardyx/jeopardy-review-game.php?gamefile=105864#.VkuTy7_gX3B

In science we studied the water cycle and we also did a demonstration with hot water and a glass bowl. Here is a great video that explains it in depth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=al-do-HGuIk

Today I sent home permission slips for next week's food basket field trip - please return by Thursday.  Also this week picture money and orders are due.

Our quote today is from Franklin D. Roosevelt, “It is common sense to take a method and try it. If it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something.”

Barometers and Personification

Did you know the mercury barometer is the oldest type of barometer, invented by the Italian physicist Evangelista Torricelli in 1643? There is a great video that describes a barometer's function: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKcLbbjV3AA.

In English we learned about personification. Personification is when you assign the qualities of a person to something that isn't human or, in some cases, to something that isn't even alive.

Common Personification Examples:

  • Lightning danced across the sky.
  • The wind howled in the night.
  • The car complained as the key was turned.
  • Rita heard the last piece of pie calling her name.

Today the students will be coming home with the results of their ITBS scores. If you have any questions about these please make an appointment to see me after school.

Our quote today is from Neal Maxwell, "We should certainly count our blessings, but we should also make our blessings count."
