Hour of Code is Coming!

Hour of code is coming next week. December 7-13 is Computer Science Education Week. We will celebrate by hosting an "Hour of Code."  Computers are everywhere, but fewer schools teach computer science than 10 years ago. Good news is, we’re on our way to change this. If you heard about the Hour of Code last year, you might know it made history. In the first Hour of Code, 15 million students tried computer science. Last year, that number increased to 60 million students! The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dU1xS07N-FA

Today, I gave the students a name and suggestions for our Christmas Book Exchange. In the spirit of giving and education please bring back a wrapped book by December 16th - which will be the day that we have our Christmas celebration.  Please choose an age-appropriate, new or gently used book.

We have been studying about winds in science. Here is a great video that demonstrates the concept: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xqzb4eT8p8Y.

We have also been studying analogies in writing.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQHh40xQ6f0

Please don't forget that our Christmas program is on Saturday, December 12th.

Our quote for today is from Socrates, "“Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel.”
