Organ PBL Research Project

We will be working on this in class, but it will also require out-of-class time. Please help your child with materials, tour or interview transportation,  and benchmark dates.

Organ Specialist PBL

1st-4th will choose 3 activities and 5^th - 8th will choose 5 activities from the list below. The number in parentheses is the length requirement for the proper grade. (1^st-4^th/5^th-8^th) In addition, all 5^th-8^th grade projects will need to have all information typed. (displays, papers, labels, scripts, etc.)

 ** This activity is a requirement and will count towards the total number of activities.

·       * Informative playing/trading cards (10/20) Example of cards

·       * Write and illustrate a children’s book about the importance of this organ (7/15 pages)

·       * Canva poster about main facts associated with this organ (5/10) (www.canva.com)

·       *  3d model or process demonstration Example of model/process

·       * Find an association connected with your organ and request promo materials – phone call (script)      and materials presented at awards night 

·       * Research a famous person with a disease connected to this organ and write an essay on how it has    affected their life. (1/5 paragraphs)

·       * Come up with a product to help people that have a disease connected to your organ. Product              name, description (paragraph) and drawn prototype on a small poster board.

**Interview an organ expert. It can be live, Skype, or phone (video or audio recorded) (10/20 interview questions) OR Hospital visit to that organ’s department with short tour – recorded  (tour questions 10/20) Interviewing Tip Sheet

      April 4 - Tell Mrs. Velbis what organ you will be getting your Daystar Doctorate in.

      April 8 – Project template and organ info sheet filled out and turned in. (10 pts)

      April 15 – Interview/tour questions turned in. (10/20 pts)

      April 22 – 1^st project turned in. (20 pts)

      April 29 – 2^nd project turned in. (20 pts)

      May 6 – 3^rd project turned in. (20 pts)

      May 13 – 4^th & 5^th projects turned in for 5^th-8^th graders. (20 & 20 pts)
