Thanksgiving Feast & Awards
Congratulations to our November award recipients! Great job to Nathaniel for most improved, Kristen for student of the month and Joey for the integrity character trait.
We enjoyed doing some worksheets on the history of Thanksgiving and Plymouth Colony. We made bookmarks and did a Thanksgiving Reader's Theater. AND we enjoyed eating all of the yummy food at the DAS Thanksgiving Feast!
I also gave out an extra credit assignment for those interested in extra credit work for social studies.
Have a safe and blessed holiday. "Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever." 1 Chronicles 16:34

Thanksgiving Budgeting
After we did math facts and the 5th graders took their math tests, we did Thanksgiving budgeting with local grocery store flyers. We made a Thanksgiving menu and the students had to make sure they had enough money to buy the food on their menu for 4 people. There was a lot of math involved, for example: when they wanted to buy one item and the sale price said that the item was 5 for $4.00. We had to figure out how many pounds of turkey to pie, etc...
We also watched a video on the history of Thanksgiving https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsdzjdT_LkY#t=210 and read some letters from children during that era. We also worked on a picture that shows what we are thankful to God for.
Tomorrow reading packets are due. There are no other assignments for this week.
Our quote for today is from W.T. Purkiser, "Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our thanksgiving."

Conflict Resolution
This week we have been discussing the story of Jacob and Esau. We used this story to help us talk about conflict resolution. Here is a great website that has ideas on how to help children become better at conflict resolution: https://www.kidsmatter.edu.au/families/about-friendship/resolving-conflict/resolving-conflict-how-children-can-learn-resolve.
Today's math assignments are in the picture for today. The 5th graders have a math test tomorrow. Please make sure they review.
Today we reviewed for our social studies test, which is tomorrow. They can review their definitions in their notebooks.
We have also been working on our reading packets which are due on Tuesday. These are a large part of their reading grade. Here are some tips on helping your student with their homework. http://www.greatschools.org/students/homework-help/4234-tips-for-no-hassle-homework-time-video.gs.
Tomorrow, online and written weekly assignments are due.
Our quote for today is from Paul Boese, "Forgiveness does not change the past, but it does enlarge the future."

In writing we are studying conjunctions this week. We will have a quiz on Thursday or Friday. Here is a great video to help teach this concept: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODGA7ssL-6g

Native American "Pottery"
Today our chapel was about integrity and making good choices, even when no one is looking. This whole month we will be talking about this character trait.
In math the 4th graders took a mid-chapter test and the 3rd graders took their chapter 5 test.
We continued to study commas and will finish up with them next week. Here is one video that we watched on commas with quotations. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrGhsiSYqTQ
We also made our own Native American "pottery."
Remember that Sunday is counted as a school day. The Fall Festival will be from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Please support our class booth by entering a pie and tasting and voting for the others.
See you on Sunday!

In math the 3rd graders studied for their Chapter 5 test, which is tomorrow.
In writing we continued to study commas and we took our reading test.
Tomorrow Spelling City assignments, spelling words and definitions, and Bible verses are due. We will also have our memory verse and spelling and vocabulary tests.

Reading Test Tomorrow
Today we talked at length about the reasons why our prayers might seem to go unanswered. I am hoping that if the students heard anything I had to say, it was that God is always listening and caring. "He listens to me every time I call to him." Psalm 116:2
