Brainstorming

Last Friday we had a snow make up day at Monarch Ski Resort.  We had a great time being outside and learning how to ski!

It is our last week of school for the 3rd quarter. We had a math facts quiz where every single student improved at least 50% from where they started off from the beginning of the quarter!  That's a lot to celebrate! 

We also started brainstorming for our big project that we will be doing 4th quarter - it is part of our project based learning.  To take a look at PBL you can watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFySmS9_y_0. Brainstorm with your student tonight on a question that we could possibly answer as a class.

Cleaning Up

Today we spent some time cleaning up our school yard and along the outside fence. We were also able to help a woman who was cleaning up the church next door. The students really enjoyed beautifying their school, helping nature and others.

We had a visit by Campion Academy's recruiter Jessica today. She shared all the great activities and classes that Campion has to offer and she also gave each student some items to take home. Here is a link to check out their high school: http://www.campion.net/

The students wrote some really great stories in writer's workshop today - ask your student about their story.  Ask them the summarizing questions: who, what, when, where, why and how.

Puppet Show

Today for Bible class our 6th-8th graders gave us a puppet show on the story of David and Goliath. They did an awesome job! Isn't it awesome that God uses us to do big things?

We continued talking about time management today and how to plan and prioritize our schedule.  When we are able to get our work done in a timely manner we have good consequences and we are not as stressed. In reading we have been talking about the summarizing strategy to help us better understand what we are reading. It also helps us in our writing too.  We need to answer the questions: who, what, where, why and how.

God Is Our Strength

Today in our devotions we discussed how God will give us enough strength to overcome difficult trials and situations. He is our loving father and wants to take care of us. "Fear not, for I am with you;  be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you,  I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Isaiah 41:10

In reading we started learning different reading strategies to help us better understand what we are reading. We are still working on our school commercial and began videoing today. The students decided to use all of the rhetorical devices in their commercial.

Please make sure your student is splitting up the weekly work so they are not trying to finish it the night before. The same should be done with anyone long term assignments like the reading packet. Working Together

We started off the week talking about how if we are grateful and we focus on our blessings, God can give us His power and peace. 

We also worked together to collaborate on some ideas for a school commercial. We have been studying rhetorical devices and how to best get our points across in a persuasive manner. I can't wait to see the finished product!

For reading comprehension we did a Scoot. We scooted to the next desk after a few minutes to answer reading comprehension questions about our reading books. It's an active way to work on reading. New reading packets were also handed out today and will be due on March 3rd.

Music Fest permission and information slips were given out today for 5th graders and above. They are due back on Monday, February 29.
