Staying Alive!

Did you know that there are 20 teaspoons of sugar in Mountain Dew?  Did you know that your body is 75% water?  Did you know that having a cell phone by your bed can interrupt your sleep?  The students learned these facts and others today thanks to the Parkview Medical Center Mobile Nurse Team, who came in today and taught us "Staying Alive."  The nurses showed the students that with proper sleep, nutrition, exercise, and abstinence from drugs they could "stay alive" for a long time. The nurses also showed the students how to do CPR to the tune of "Staying Alive."

Our quote today is an Italian proverb,
"He who enjoys good health is rich, though he knows it not."

Finish Strong

We are finishing our school year strong.  The students are continuing to work hard on their PBL.  Yesterday they recorded a radio commercial for Healthy Helping Hands that will air on Hope Radio 105:9.

We also had a guest teacher for the afternoon observing our classroom.  Ms. Hawkins, came from Denver to observe.  It was nice having her in our room and she also shared with us an awesome frog dissecting app on her I-Pad.

Our quote for today is Abigail Adams, “Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence.”

Nutritional Health Coach

A big thank you to Carrie Martin, a nutritional health coach, who helped our students with health education for their PBL. Please ask your student some of the things they learned today - I am sure they have a lot to share!

STEM PIE (Parents Involved in Education) Night

Thank you to the CSU-Pueblo Science, Math and Information Technology Departments along with the Pueblo Public Library.  A great night with hands-on activities to make learning fun!

Have Fun Studying English

Today we played an English Jeopardy game. Let me suggest that you try playing this with your child. They need some extra practice with their parts of speech and playing a game with a family member will encourage them! https://www.quia.com/cb/139860.html , https://jeopardylabs.com/play/parts-of-speech-jeopardy21, https://www.superteachertools.us/jeopardyx/jeopardy-review-game.php?gamefile=266255#.VxVSm3r-SjI

On this cold and wet Monday we decided to stay indoors for recess. The students had a good time playing board games.

Don't forget that tomorrow night is PIE night at 6:30 pm. Please invite friends and family - all ages are welcome! Bring your creativity and imaginations!

Our quote for today is from Thomas Edison, "“To invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk.”
