Rough Drafts Due Tomorrow

Please remember that book report rough drafts are due tomorrow and the 1st-3rd graders need to have their hamburger reports on a stiff background.

Today, I sent home notes inviting parents (or other important adult) to Parent's Day on Thursday, April 6th. The parents are invited to spend the whole day with their student. It will be a great way to interact with your child and encourage their academic careers. If you can't come for the whole day - a portion of the day would be great too!

In science we did experiments with cars and marbles concerning friction. Ask your child what they learned.

Tomorrow we also have Spelling City assignments, spelling definitions, spelling and vocab tests, and memory verses.

This is the last quarter of school and students start to have a hard time focusing and completing assignments - please help keep them accountable and encourage them with positive reinforcements.

Our quote for today is from Lebron James, "I'm going to use all my tools, my God-given ability, and make the best life I can with it."

Friction

Did you know that our world would be pretty crazy without friction?  There are four different kinds of friction - ask your student if they remember what they are.  Here is a great video we watched today to explain it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyKL1IQLcCA

This is a full week with Spelling City assignments, spelling words and definitions, Reading Plus, Bible verses and the March 30th due date for the book reports. Please help your child keep accountable to these assignments.

Our Bible verses for this week are:
1st, 2nd, 3rd graders -
“The people must build a holy place for me. Then I can live among them. Build this Holy Tent and everything in it by the plan I will show you." Exodus 25:8,9

5th – 7th graders -
I appeal to you, dear brothers and sisters, by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, to live in harmony with each other. Let there be no divisions in the church. Rather, be of one mind, united in thought and purpose." 1 Corinthians 1:10

Our quote for the week is from Marie Curie, “Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves."

Tomorrow is Noon Dismissal

In science we learned about force and bridges.  We did an experiment with paper and paper clips to see how we could make stronger bridges. Ask your student what they learned. Here is a video we watched: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVOnRPefcno

Please remember that tomorrow is noon dismissal because of home visits. Students can bring a snack but will not need to bring their lunches.

Tomorrow we will have our Bible verse quizzes and 5th-7th graders will have their essay maps due. Also remember that Reading Plus will still be due this week.

Our quote for today is from Hayao Miyazaki, "Engineers turn dreams into reality.”

Donated Playground is a Hit!

A huge thank you to the Cesar Chavez school in Pueblo, for donating their used playground equipment to Daystar!  They got a grant for a new playground and blessed us with their old one. And another BIG thank you to those who helped install it - the Pueblo First SDA church members - and we are very grateful!!!

Our Bible verses for this week are:
1st, 2nd, 3rd graders:
“I will live with the people of Israel. I will be their God. And they will know that I am the Lord their God.” Exodus 29:45-46
5th – 7th graders:
He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds. You must teach these things and encourage the believers to do them." Titus 2:14-15

This week we will not have Spelling words or Spelling City since it is a short week. There will still be Reading Plus. I am giving the students extra time in class to complete that.

Please remember that it is a noon dismissal on Wednesday because of home visits. And no school on Thursday because of Music Festival.

Our quote for today is from Alan Sheperd, one of the first American astronauts, "I think the sense of family and family achievement, plus the discipline which I received there from that one-room school were really very helpful in what I did later on."

Getting Ready for PIE Night

Please tell your friends, family and neighbors to join us tomorrow night at 6:30 pm for some parent and child interactive fun!  PIE (parents involved in education) Night will have games, activities and local teachers, librarians and the Pueblo Fire Department to help us enjoy math!  Plus, there will be some delicious pie, as well!  The students were working on a banner today to help decorate for the event.

We did math facts today for a quarter grade. The students have improved so much and did a great job!

Please remember that this week they will have their weekly assignments plus the reading book report benchmarks and a history test on Thursday.

Our Bible verses for this week are:

1st, 2nd, 3rd graders:
“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me.” Exodus 20:2-3

5th – 7th graders:
For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true.” Ephesians 5:8-9

Our quote for today is from Katie Davis ( a young woman who adopted 14 Ugandan children), "We are not called to be safe, we are simply promised that when we are in danger, God is right there with us. And there is no better place to be than in His hands."

Happy Birthday Micah

Happy birthday Micah!  May God continue to bless you and guide you for many more joyous celebrations.

Tomorrow we will have spelling, vocabulary and memory verse quizzes.  All students will also need to bring in their book report benchmark tomorrow.

Please continue to spread the word about our PIE night this Tuesday at 6:30pm.

This is Black History Month and so our quotes are from inspiring African Americans. Today's quote is from Booker T. Washington, "Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed."
