Congratulations to our February award winners! Gabriel - Student of the Month, Antonio - Most Improved and Joshua - Most Compassionate.
Please remember that Reading Plus assignments are due Sunday at midnight. There will be no Spelling City assignments next week since we have a short week - there is no school on Thursday and Friday.
I sent a flyer home with the students for the Kids Care Health Fair. Please pass it on to a neighbor, or put it up in a store or at church. Help us get the word out! We are also looking for door prizes, decorations and food donations.
Our quote for today is from Peggy O'Mara, "“The way we talk to our children becomes their inner voice.”

Peer Editing
Super job today 4th and 5th graders on your math tests! My students are turning into Math Whizzes!!! Keep studying those math facts guys.
This week the students have been working on WPP assignments. They may continue to work on them tonight and revise. I will look at their final grades tomorrow. The students used the writing skills they have been learning in class plus peer editing - their scores have raised a lot since the beginning of the year.
Tomorrow spelling words and definitions are due along with Bible verses and SpellingCity assignments. Please remember that ReadingPlus is due Sunday at midnight.
Today's quote is by Anne Frank, "“I can shake off everything as I write; my sorrows disappear, my courage is reborn.”

Success!
Thanks to all of the volunteers who made the 2015 DAS Art Extravaganza a great success!!! I was SO proud of my students.
Please make a note that new reading packets were handed out this week and will be due on Friday, March 13th.
5th graders have a chapter test in math tomorrow and 4th graders have a mid-chapter test. The students will also have an inference and textual evidence quiz.
Our quote for today is from Israelmore Avivor, “Never be afraid to try. The only angle through which you can approach success is by the “try-angle”. You may fail if you try, but shame unto you if you don’t try at all. If you fail…rise up and try again and again!”

Getting Ready for the Art Extravaganza
Our Bible verse for this week is, "Don’t tell lies to each other; it was your old life with all its
wickedness that did that sort of thing; now it is dead and gone. You are living
a brand new kind of life that is continually learning more and more of what is
right, and trying constantly to be more and more like Christ who created this
new life within you." Colossians 3:9-10
Today we continued learning about inferences and contextual evidence. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acZzllpIYz4, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=to30AJm2epQ, and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5A-mOqB4Pc.

Art Session
Today we had a lot of fun working on our art projects for the Art Extravaganza. Today we started making sculptures out of cardboard. The students were very creative! Tomorrow they will paint them. The theme for this year's event is "Color Our World."
I handed out an extra credit reading project today for any students who would like to have an opportunity to bring up their reading grade for this quarter.
Please remember that Monday, reading packets are due for the appropriate chapters. Tomorrow the 3rd graders will have their math chapter 9 test.
Also tomorrow, all weekly assignments will be due.
Our quote for today is from Monica Johnson, "True love does not only encompass the things that make you feel good, it also holds you to a standard of accountability."

Happy Tuesday
This week's Bible verse is:
"Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the Lord your God is giving you." Deuteronomy 5:16
Tomorrow the 4th graders have their Chapter 9 math test and the 5th graders have their mid-chapter quiz. The 3rd graders are learning equivalent fractions.

Today in writing we continued our study on suffixes and we are also started working on
how to
explain the point an author wants to convey by identifying the reasons and
evidence that support that point. Here are two videos that we watched with that lesson: https://learnzillion.com/resources/14844 and https://learnzillion.com/lessons/4073-explain-the-point-an-author-wants-to-convey.
We also worked on our phone scripts for planning our science health fair. Please make sure you have March 16th on your calendar!
I have started scheduling home visits. Please respond to my latest email so that I can appropriately plan. I am excited to take this new step in our partnership for the success of your child's education - now and for eternity.
