A new date has been set for the completion of the In Class Washington D.C. project - it is now May 13th. The graphic organizer that I handed out today for the project is due on Monday, May 4th.
Please remember that tomorrow is Earth Day at DAS and if each student could bring in one bag of soil, it would be very appreciated. This Friday is our award's chapel and also our DAS spelling bee. Parents are always welcome.
This week we are doing DIBELS testing. Yesterday we did our reading/vocabulary portion of the test and I was very impressed with the improvements.
Today's pictures are of the students favorite recess game - kickball!
Our quote for today is from Harriet Tubman, "Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have
within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the
stars to change the world."

Parent's Day
Yesterday Mrs. Velbis had 30, 40 & 50 year old students in her class
doing spelling, math and writing! It was Parent's Day, where the
parents joined their children for a whole day of elementary school. We
had a great time working together and I know it took the parents back to
their childhood days. The students really enjoyed sharing their school
day with their parents.
Please remember that social studies maps are due on Monday, as well as theme letters on WPP online and Reading Plus on Sunday at midnight.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Like a Family
As the picture portrays, our classroom is like a family. Every morning we greet each other and talk about our prayers and praises.
We continue to study our country's history and the states and capitals. Here is a really fun video that goes over all the states and capitals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_E2CNZIlVIg
In writing we are working on our Theme-In-A-Bottle letters and WPP online lessons about sentence structure. In reading we practiced our poems - the students were very impressive! 3rd & 4th graders have their reading packets due on Friday.
Parent's day tomorrow - please bring a lunch, pencil and a bottle and supplies to help your student with their Theme-In-A-Bottle project. We are looking forward to having you in our classroom tomorrow for all or part of the day!
Our quote for today is from Theodore Roosevelt, "Believe you can, and you are half way there."

Our Bible verse this week is:
When I am afraid, O Lord Almighty,
I put my trust in you.
I trust in God and am not afraid;
I praise him for what he has promised.
What can a mere human being do to me?

I trust in God and am not afraid;
I praise him for what he has promised.
What can a mere human being do to me?
Psalm 56:3-4
